Lucca Summer Festival is proud to announce the first major concert in Piazza Napoleone for its 2026 edition.
On Tuesday, July 7, Alabama Shakes—one of the most acclaimed bands of the past decade—will take the stage, returning to Italy after more than ten years. Opening the evening will be Matt Berninger, the unmistakable voice and frontman of The National, performing a special set to present his new solo project Get Sunk. For both artists, this will be their only Italian date.
After an eight-year hiatus, Alabama Shakes are back on tour with a worldwide comeback announced in 2025, marking the long-awaited reunion of Brittany Howard, Heath Fogg, and Zac Cockrell. The band is ready to deliver new music and the electrifying energy that made them one of the defining acts of modern American rock.
With their celebrated albums Boys & Girls and Sound & Color, the Athens (Alabama) outfit redefined the boundaries of contemporary rock, blending soul, blues, and psychedelia into an unmistakable sound that captivated audiences and critics alike. Winners of four Grammy Awards, Alabama Shakes have been praised by Rolling Stone and The New York Times Magazine for the intensity and evolution of their sound, cementing their place among the most influential bands of the last decade.
Matt Berninger, the special guest of the evening, will arrive in Lucca to present his second solo album Get Sunk (Book/Concord Records), released in 2025. Produced by Sean O’Brien, the record delves lyrically and poignantly into themes of identity and creative rebirth, reaffirming Berninger as one of the most sophisticated storytellers in today’s indie-rock landscape. Following his acclaimed debut Serpentine Prison, Get Sunk marks a new artistic chapter for a songwriter capable of turning fragility and introspection into pure musical beauty.
The July 7, 2026 concert adds another prestigious event to the lineup of Lucca Summer Festival, which once again will bring world-class artists to the unique setting of Piazza Napoleone, confirming its status as one of the most anticipated music events of the Italian summer.
With this announcement, the 2026 Lucca Summer Festival—organized by D’Alessandro e Galli—continues to grow with yet another unmissable show.
